Hey folks,

I have my transvenous liver biopsy booked for tomorrow. I have to turn up at about 1pm but I don't know how to prepare beforehand. I guess I've been trying not to think about it and suddenly it's tomorrow and I've realised I haven't asked about it. I'd be grateful if anyone knows the answers to any of these questions...

I don't recall my consultant mentioning anything about food or drink, but should I be avoiding eating and drinking for a certain time beforehand, and if so, how long?

How long does the procedure last?

Is there a best type of clothing to wear?

Will I see anything happening? I am super squeamish and just the thought of this whole thing makes me feel ill! He did say I'd be mildly sedated and mentioned Valium.

What's the recovery time?

Will I scar where they insert the tube?

Sorry for all the questions...

Hi all

Hope you are all well

Been for a check up today levels are all normal which is great. I can reduce the pred from 10 to 7.5 for 6 months which I am not impressed with, but my consultant wouldn't budge after the flare I had last year was so bad, I know he is only trying to keep me well but it means it will take 2 years to get of the pred as he said he will reduce by 2.5 every 6 months. I know it's not the end of the world but today it feels like it I am so sick of taking this bloody pills

Sorry better go, with luck tomorrow will be a better day

Dawn x

Forum: AIH General

Hi everyone

I want to pick a few brains and get some opinions please.

I have been having bouts of diarhea for a few weeks now. Usually a couple of times a week and sometimes so bad that I have to take Immodium. When it is normal my digestive system still doesn't feel qiute right. Indigestion, colicy type pains and lots of flatulance both upper and lower ends. Frequently feel queasy too.

My bloods are all normal and everything else is fine. The one thing I am wondering though is, I started on Ibandronic acid 3 months ago and its the monthly tablet. I was wondering if this could be causing the digestive disruption.

Any suggestions or advice would be very welcome.

Thanks

Jenny

Forum: AIH General

Aza advice

Hi Guys, I am still quite new to this. Diagnosed on Oct 2011, and have been told by cons that I am "atypical", anyway started on 40mg Pred, quickly bloods got back to near normal and he quickly reduced my Pred down to 5mg (I had no idea that others struggle with such large reductions at that time!)then he introduced Aza in Jan, 50mg. I missed my appointment in March due to being sick (literally!) so went to see my GP, he told me my liver function was perfcet and he could not see any reason to increase the Aza (why would you take more of such a potentially dangerous drug?), so he said stay on 50mg and 5mg pred. Then got a letter from cons saying go up to 150mg Aza and that my bloods were good.

I feel caught in the middle, have done reading but feel divided - your veiws and advice would be very welcome.

Thanks guys

Ginger xx

Forum: AIH General

Switching to cellcept

Hi all,

Looks like i will be making the switch to cellcept as my neurological issues are not subsiding. Tingling and pain in extremeties is worse and cant determine if it is the bud or aza, so consultant is switching me to cellcept. I will start on 2000 mgs a day. This seems really high based on what i am reading on old posts. Anyone else on this high a dose? Does this seem normal?

I wonder which will give me worse side effects. I am a bit worried again. I just wantto feel normal again.
Forum: AIH General

Hey folks,

Well I have a date for my biopsy- next Thursday. My consultant has recommended I have a transvenous procedure, which sounds horrific (I am very squeamish), but apparently a lot less painful. Any experiences you could share would be great to hear about so I know what I'm going in for... Such a loss for the family, nicky was a great help to me at the begining when I found this web-site. I'll join the rip Facebook page.

I'm currently in hospital, I developed a tumour on my liver, turns out it's the long term use of azathioprine that has caused it. I'm on my second cycle of chemo and 2 more to go. I have a CT scan next Thursday. Fngers crossed the tumour has shrunk. I don't want to panic everyone, but if you don't feel right and have pains down your side please please get it checked out!!

Hey one and all, Sorry but I've been hiding out for a while. Things were going pretty well and they were lowering my pred until I hit 5mg then everything has started to go up again. Boo! So we are holding @ 5 mg for two more weeks until more bloods then decided if I have to increase. However along with the liver they have noticed that for around a year my calcium has been high and keeps getting higher. So they think I have Hyperparathyroidism. (Wow mouth full) anyway it causes so many things like fatigue, headaches, stomach pain, depression, everything that I have been going through and blamed on the pred reduction. So here is the question, can you have a operation while on pred @ 5 or 7.25 mg, and 2000 mg cellcept? I'm dying to feel better and would love it if a operation could make all these things go away but with my liver going back up I'm hesitant... Anyway I know we aren't Doc's and I won't know anything for two weeks but, I just thought I would throw this out in cyber land. Thanks you lovely people. I hope that you are all doing better and can find some joy in today!
Hugs Kathy
I should sign off as "yet another bump in the road". I guess that since I have AIH I think that I shouldn't get anything else until I get this cured. Life just doesn't work that way and I keep on forgetting that fact!

Forum: AIH General

I see from some of the posts on other threads that several people were interested in having a thread to report weight loss successes, swap hints, give each other support etc.

As no one seemed keen to start the thread we moderators thought we would!

So here it is. No special format - just report what you like and ask for advice when you want. Its a topic that many forum members are interested in and are at varying degrees of success.

Just a quick idea to encourage understanding. Remember as an international forum we have people here using different ways to measure weight. In the US its pounds, Canada, Europe (and Australia?) kilograms and here in UK despite attempts to get us to use kilos many people still use stones and pounds.

So I thought I'd mention that:

1 kilogram = 2.2 pounds

1 stone = 14 pounds

Of course if you'd prefer to do this in a different way then please go ahead - its your forum.

To everyone trying to lose weight - good luck!

Forum: Non AIH/PBC chat
